Meet Lauren: Hair Stylist & Salon Manager

All I’m going to say is I want to be Lauren when I grow up!!!! Her confidence and ability to lift up the team she manages is so inspiring.

Tell us a little about yourself and your career

I am a momma of two really cool kids, Sophia (D-13) and Drew (S-9), who keep me grounded and feeling young. I’ve got 33 years of lessons, successes, failures, strength, and tenacity in me, so far. Hahaha! I have been passionate about doing hair since I was 5 years old and started doing it when I was 17. I’m still doing it with the same love and drive, and now also managing an Aveda salon, which has become one of the most challenging and most rewarding jobs I have ever had, second to being a mom!

How does your community of women you surround yourself with support you?

I call these women my tribe. The way they support me is just like that. When I have an idea, they are always in my corner rooting me on! They always tell me to go for it and keep me moving forward, even when the seas get rough. We keep each other motivated by calling, texting, or sending messages of encouragement and support, literally every day. We don’t let anyone fall apart without a shoulder to cry on. This is the kind of tribe all women should have in their lives. We need each other.

What misconceptions about the beauty industry would you like corrected?

Oh WOW! That’s a great question. I guess if I could change some things, it would be that we’re not all high maintenance. We spend more time taking care of others than we ever do on ourselves.

We are not magicians….we’re more like fairies..hair fairies LOL! We can’t make you look like Halle Berry. However, as fairies, we can enhance everything beautiful about you and conceal what you’re not the biggest fan of….we can help you FEEL like Halle Berry, for sure!

We’re here for you. Through your highs and lows, we’ve got you. Call us when you need a pick me up, a transformation, or just some good ol’ relaxation. We care about you so much and consider our guests to be our friends. I promise, we think about way more often than every 6-8 weeks!

Lastly, we really wish you’d tell us if you don’t love what we did on you! We love your feedback! It helps us grow and identifies the areas that maybe we could get more education on or improve a behavior on. Our careers are founded on taking care of people and if we aren’t doing that in a way that best serves your needs and wants, we truly want to know!

What do you wish you could go back and tell your younger self re: your career aspirations?

Hahahaha!! I would say “Get over yourself! You weren’t sent here to be perfect. You’re here to practice and improve. Be easy on yourself because everything always works out anyway. Be an artist, not a robot!”

What is your career-related mantra?

Do whatever you want! You are the author of this story so you’d better make it the best damn book you’ve ever read. Learn what you want. Make the money you want. Change lives. Eat cake. You know, do all the things. Dream BIG and then double up on the dream. It’s so easy once you decide it’s not hard. Just be a badass. We need more of those!
