Meet Kiley: Teacher and Blogger

Tell us a little about yourself and your career

My name is Kiley Ferrari…and from as far back as I can remember, I have wanted to be two things; a teacher and a mom. I went to Cal Poly and graduated with my teaching credential, and soon after got my Master’s Degree. I taught elementary school for 8 years before becoming a mommy. When our first daughter was born, we decided I was going to stay home. It was exciting and scary leaving the work force. But the great thing about teaching is you can always come back!!!

How does your community of women you surround yourself with support you?

Since becoming a mom, I found that surrounding yourself with supportive women is essential. Motherhood can be lonely and frustrating! So a Village of mamas who can lend a listening ear or a helping hand, is needed for survival!!

I LOVE your blog’s name (The Village Girl)… how can women build up and encourage their village?

I think one of the biggest ways women can support each other is to be honest with each other. To share the good, but also the bad. To listen… Not to offer advice, but to offer a “me too!” And an “I’ve been there!” We’ve all had the good days and the bad…but knowing that we’re all experiencing the same things is comforting.

What do you wish you could go back and tell your younger self re: your career aspirations?

If I could go back and tell my younger-self one thing…it would be to slow down and enjoy the journey.

What is your career-related mantra?

hmmmm. My career related mantra?! I don’t know if this is a mantra…but when things are hard I remind myself it always gets better. Always!!
