Ellie was roommates with my older sister when I was in college and I’ve always been in awe of her tenacity and organizational skills. She’s one of those gals who always has it together… she takes great care of herself, had a rocking job, and makes her meals for the whole week on Sunday, which qualifies her for some kind of award, I’m certain.
Ellie recently had her first baby and decided to apply the skills she acquired as the Director of Operations for an edtech company to direct sales. I know that women can be weary of the promises made by some of these companies, but I love that Ellie is putting her skills to good use in a lucrative and flexible job!
Tell us a little about yourself and your career
My name is Ellie Johnson and I am an Executive Manager with Tupperware. Before I had my first child I worked full time as the Director of Operations at an education technology company.
When I started my family I wanted to be there for my son but also have a career of my own.
That is when I transitioned to Tupperware and I am so grateful I did. I get to have a wonderful, successful career while also spending quality time with my family and being there for my son every day.
How does your community of women you surround yourself with support you?
I have the best group of girlfriends a girl could ask for. They are such a huge support to me.
One of my best friends brought me in to Tupperware and my life wouldn’t be the same without it. My friends will watch my son for me when I host Tupperware events, which I am so grateful for.
My circle of friends cheer for me when I succeed and give me great ideas and advice
when I need it. I don’t have family where I live and without my friendships I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What advice do you have for women in direct sales?
Before I started direct sales I didn’t understand what a great career it could provide. If you are looking to make extra money, have a little fun, get out of the house, and get phenomenal
product then I would absolutely give direct sales a try. It really provides so much more than
you would anticipate and is a flexible way to make money and stay home with your family. It’s the best of both worlds!
What do you wish you could go back and tell your younger self re: your career aspirations?
To do what makes you happy, regardless of what changes you may need to make to make
that happen. Don’t get stuck at a job that makes you miserable. There are so many more
wonderful options out there to explore. Sometimes stepping outside your comfort zone can be scary, but once you do, you can be happier than you ever imagined.
What is your career-related mantra?
Work hard, stay positive, and try something new. You never know what small change you can make that will make all the difference.
